Last post we looked at how to connect to the RIGIS image services within desktop GIS.  Did you know that you are able to download selected tiles from these image services within ArcMap and ArcPro?

Let’s step through how:

SELECT TILES TO DOWNLOAD

  1. Add an image service layer to your map.
  2. Zoom in on an area.
  3. Use the select tool to define an area of tiles to download (draw a rectangle or select an area by just clicking)
    • NOTE: the download operation is limited to 20 tiles at a time.
  4. Once the tiles are selected, you may need to remove the overview extents that are selected.  Follow the appropriate workflow:
    • Right-click on the image service in the table of contents –
      • ArcMap: Choose Selection > Reselect Only Primary Rasters.
      • ArcPro:  Choose Selection > Deselect overviews.

DOWNLOAD THE TILES

    • Right-click on the image service in the table of contents
      • ArcMap: Data > Download selected rasters
      • ArcPro: Data > Download rasters

Provide a target location where the download files will be written too.  All other options – keep the defaults.

The files will come down as OrothoSectorTile.JP2 with corresponding .aux file.

Now the source imagery files are on your local drive and may be accessed at anytime and manipulated the way you would like.
