Updated LiDAR Data: Bare earth DEMs for both the 2014 NOAA post-Sandy Topobathy LiDAR collection, and the 2014 USGS CMGP Sandy LiDAR collection (both in the Elevation and Bathymetry section) have been replaced with new versions. The new GeoTIFFs correct a processing error that did not change vertical units to feet.

6/10/16

Updated the Municipal Boundaries 1997 dataset; see summary of changes below:

1) Remaining water polygons were removed – FIDs: 14, 18, 21, 23, 24, 26, 34, 97, 104, 328, 356, 380, and 399.
2) Gould Island (FID 78) was incorrectly categorized as Tiverton; this was switched to Portsmouth, and all muni-related attribute values were corrected. The proper Gould Island designation was received from Gary Crosby (gcrosby@portsmouthri.com) in the form of a parcel record of ownership.
3) Edited FID 12 (East Providence) to extend boundary to include missing land along the shoreline. Recalculated area and perimeter values.
4) Created new feature, FID 395, to cover portion of Bold Point belonging to Providence. Calculated area and perimeter values.
5) Created two new features, FID 393 and FID 394, to cover the “Twin Islands” (Gingerbread Island and Pancake Island) and coded both with muni values for Providence. Calculated area and perimeter values for both.

5/23/16

New LiDAR Data: New bare earth DEMs have been added to the 2014 NOAA post-Sandy Topobathy LiDAR collection in the Elevation and Bathymetry section.

The 2014 NOAA post-Sandy Topobathy LiDAR collection provides coverage of RI’s south coast towns. The DEM tiles are available in Rhode Island State Plane Feet coordinates, with vertical units of feet.

Updates to the Elevation and Bathymetry section:

The LAS files available for the 2014 NOAA post-Sandy Topobathy LiDAR collection have been replaced with vendor-created files; these are available in geographic coordinates, with horizontal and vertical units of meters. The LAS files available for the 2014 USGS CMGP Sandy LiDAR collection were also replaced with vendor-created files. These are available in UTM, with horizontal and vertical units of meters. These changes were made so that all raw LAS point cloud data distributed by RIGIS remains in it’s original, untouched form; this is consistent with the 2011 Statewide LiDAR that had been hosted by RIGIS for a number of years.

5/16/16

Updated Dataset: State Boundary (1997) and County Boundary (1997), to reflect changes made to the Municipal Boundaries (1997) data made on 4/12/16 (see below for more details) – availabe under the Boundaries data download area.

4/12/16

Updated the Municipal Boundaries 1997 dataset; see summary of changes below:

It was brought to our attention that there were 7 polygons that had no attribute information and did not “belong” to a town. FID 56 was determined to be part of Warren (based on emails with Town Planner and Harbor Master); appropriate attribute information was added. FID 333, 335 & 342 were deleted as they all represented water areas. FID 327 & 341 were determined to be part of South Kingstown and appropriate attribute information was added. FID 411 was deleted as it was determine to be a part of Stonington, CT. Those changes resolved the 7 “un-named” polygons.
The following were also deleted as they represented polygons of digitized water areas; since most coastal ponds and rivers were digitized to the shoreline (and excluded the water area), these were deleted for consistency throughout the state’s coastline – FID 397, 342, 356, 310, 339, 133, 128, 66, 21, 16, & 10.

New LiDAR Data: Two new collections of coastal LiDAR data have been added to the Elevation and Bathymetry section.

First is the 2014 NOAA post-Sandy Topobathy LiDAR collection that provides coverage of RI’s south coast towns. Currently these data are only availabe in LAS file format, however we hope to make tiled Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data available in the future. Second, the 2014 USGS CMGP Sandy LiDAR collection that also provides coverage of RI’s south coast towns, as well as coverage of the southern portion of Narragansett Bay towns such as Jamestown, Newport, Middletown and Little Compton. These data are available for download in both LAS file format and as tiled DEMs. Both collections are provided in the Rhode Island State Plane – feet coordinate system.

New coastal Imagery: One new collection of 4-band, 35cm ground sample distance (GSD) coastal imagery data have been added to the Imagery section. These data were collected by NOAA simultaneously with the NOAA topobathy LiDAR, and provide coverage of RI’s south coast, as well as coverage of the southern portion of Narragansett Bay towns such as Jamestown, Newport, Middletown and Little Compton. These data are available in both GeoTIFF and JPEG2000 file formats, and are provided in the Rhode Island State Plane – feet coordinate system.
