Connecting to Image Services

Ready to start using the new 3- inch pixel resolution, true color aerial images captured April 24 – May 7, 2019?  Try connecting to the RIGIS image server to begin using these resources in your map and online products.  While these images are not traditionally orthorectifed, they do provide incredible detail.


ArcGIS Pro

  • Add Data: Select Portal > All Portal
    • This will allow a search of all ArcGIS Online public data including RIGIS data holdings.
  • In the Search bar type, “RIGIS aerial 2019

  • The results listed show a grouping of data for each flight time period.  
  • Each flight time period includes 2 Imagery layers and one Tile layer.
    • The Tile layer is published and hosted directly on ArcGIS Online in the WGS 84 web mercator coordinate system.
    • the imagery layers are published and hosted on a server as WGS 84 or RI SPF NAD83 coordinate system.
  • Note the different icons for tile vs imagery layer type
  • Choose one of the layers to be added to the document.

ArcMap

  • Add Data from ArcGIS Online
  • Search “RIGIS aerial 2019”

  • The results listed show a grouping of data for each flight time period.  
  • The group includes 2 Imagery layers and one Tile layer.
    • The Tile layer is published and hosted directly on ArcGIS Online as WGS 84 web mercator coordinate system
    • the imagery layers are published and hosted on a server as WGS 84 or RI SPF NAD83 coordinate system
  • Note the different descriptions for tile vs imagery layer type
  • click Add to use one of the layers in your document.

If you prefer to have a direct connection to the services, follow the directions below.

ArcGIS Pro

  1. Insert a connection
  2. Choose New ArcGIS Server
  3. Use this url to establish a connection with the RIGIS Image Server. https://maps.edc.uri.edu/rigis/rest/services/
  4. You may click cancel if prompted to login to ArcGIS Online.  You will now be connected to the RIGIS image server.
  5. Add data – choose Servers, click the new server connection > select the IMG folder.  All available image service will be listed.  These image services can be added as either WGS84 Web Mercator (RI_201904_RGB_3in_web) or NAD83 RI State Plane feet (RI_2019_RGB_3in_spf)

 

 

ArcGIS Desktop

  1. Add Data
  2. Choose Add ArcGIS Server
